What if you can recreate an event in your life?
Think of a not-so-good experience in the past where you believe it could have gone the way you wanted it to be. What if you can change that moment?
For Ice Seguerra, it was his highschool prom night. He said he wanted a prom where he can express freely and date a person of his choice, “Imagine magsusuot ka ng gown tapos magde-date ka ng lalake, kadiri diba,” he jokingly said to the crowd.
Now that he is more in-charge with his life, he can make choices that work for him and empower his being. He thought of recreating his prom to have new prom memories through the Manila Pride Ball – This is Our Prom held at KAO Day and Night Club on 01 June 2023.
The star-studded Pride Month kick-off event was attended by hundreds of members and allies of the LGBTQIA+ community. The crowd was energized with drag performances from Precious Paula Nicole, Brigiding, and Viñas Deluxe.
Liza Diño Esguerra said that June is the month where LGBTQIA+individuals become more relevant to different organizations. She encouraged the crowd to celebrate every single day of it, “maraming nakiki-celebrate sa atin ngayon, this is your safe space, and sana hindi lang this month ang ganito but all throughout the year,” she said.
It was a night full of empowering choices. Everybody came with their own choice of expression, prom attire, date, and friends! If all people are empowered to make choices that work for them, maybe we can recreate not just our prom night, but also the world.
